2007 Negotiations with Maple Leaf Foods - Saskatoon

After 21 days of negotiations between Maple Leaf Consumer Foods - Saskatoon and U.F.C.W. Local 248-P bargaining ground to a halt.

On October 30th and 31st Special Meetings were held with the membership working at the former Mitchell's operations.  A record number of members were in attendance where a motion was moved from the floor to obtain the members opinion regarding a Strike Mandate.

When the ballots were counted upon completion of the Secret Ballot vote; the Bargaining Committee received a 98.82% Strike Mandate.

The Union Bargaining Committee Chairperson will contact Maple Leaf Consumer Foods with the intention to return to meaningful negotiations.

The National and International Offices will also be contacted and proper documentation completed in the event that successful negotiations are unattainable.

Maple Leaf - Saskatoon Negotiations

Negotiations continued on December 7th, 2007 with the assistance of mediator, Doug Forseth.

The parties were unable to conclude negotiations and the Local will make a presentation to the membership at the December 11th and 13th membership meetings.

Committees are to contact mediator Forseth for further bargaining dates.

Mitchells Contract and Benefits

Mitchells contract is a 4 year contract running from April 1,2003 to April 1,2007. Wages- Employees hired before Aug.14,1998 have a $ .30 increase, bringing the Base rate to $15.87 and have the bracket system. Employees hired on or after Aug.14,1998-April 1,2003 have the starting rate increased to $8.50, and base rate after a 3 year progression of $11.10 and have the class system.

Benefits

Maple Leaf, North Battleford

Contract: 5 years from Jan. 01,2003 to Dec. 01,2007 Wages: to increase $ .30 the first year and $ .35 for each year of the contract following. CCWIPP Pension Plan is currently at $ .31 per hour Effective Jan. 05,2004 it will increase to $ .36 per hour Effective Jan. 03,2005 it will increase to $ .37 per hour Effective Jan. 02,2006 it will increase to $ .38 per hour Effective Jan. 01,2007 it will increase to $ .39 per hour This is based on a maximum of 2040 hours a year. Hours of the week: Co. and Union have agreed to a 10 hour shift for day workers only. They will be provided with 2-20 minute rest periods during the day. Probationary period has been reduced from 1040 hours to 800 hours. Stat. Holidays: If you are working 4-10 hour shifts your stat pay is for 10 hours. if you are working 5-8 hour shifts your stat pay will be for 8 hours The Company will provide theUnion with an office, desk, and filing cabinet for the use of the unit chair, and or the chief Steward, for the purpose of conducting union business. We have shortened these Benefit statements to point form, so that our members can make the maximum use of the benefits available to them. Mitchells Employees Rejects Offer

On Monday April 14, 2003 members working at Mitchell s Gourmet Foods voted to reject the final offer. The results were Accept 504 Reject 592 Today the members are taking a strike vote at the Union Centre from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Results will be Posted on this web site at the end of the day.
