History of UFCW248-P

In the past fifty plus years, since our local was formed many changes have taken place. There have been mergers on the international level that have resulted in name changes and changes in the composition of the members that the Union now represents. The United Food and Commercial Workers is such a Union.

On the local level there have also been many changes over the years. Our name changed as the changes on the International level occurred. There have also been mergers on the local level where we now represent members across the province in not only the meat sector, but also oil seeds, eggs, and several other sectors.

Education & Training

Steward Schools: Our local handles the training of our own Stewards, with a new format this year, that we feel will promote the idea of serving as a Steward in the Workplace. We have a very well trained instructor who works within our Local. We also supply training of Stewards for other UFCW Locals in Saskatchewan. We offer Level 1, and Level 2 Steward courses.

We have a link with another UFCW local that allows us to offer computer training. These classes start with Basic Computer Training and continue up to Advanced Computer Skills.

We offer access to other schools in many fields for our members ie. O.H.S. courses, women's issues and needs, negotiating, Pensions, etc.
